Maybe, along with all the words to the Trespassing songs, there should be an "alternative" glossary of terms, so we not-so-hip folks can understand what Adam is *really* singing about. Or not... ;D Yeah! I always thought 'rusty umbrella' was ...well...just an umbrella that was old and rusted out. But fellow Adamtopians educated me in Adam-terminology! ;D

If I can't have you was as melodramatic as it gets??? OMG. You're right. But it seemed very genuine. THAT is the AI perfomance that I use as a touchstone (to see if I retain that original VERY VISCERAL reaction!) That was the "pool of Abdul" song, right? I know it's the one that this certain note makes the very top of my scalp tingle every.single.time. Going to check it out again RN. *procrastinator*

Can I swear? Insert the juiciest curses out of a sailor's mouth right here. I love ALL Adam's faces, apart from the one I tried and failed to describe. I'm off to google that. Postpone the crucifixion for later. Brb,

I can't imagine this happening but if a southerner comes north and uses the terms ma'am and gets a side-eye I don't think it is because the words are considered rude. If I had to guess, I would say it is more because the accent, combined with the stereotypical words, really stand out. Southerners can either be seen as adorable or cheesy depending on your view. No offense meant--I love the different cultures of our country but for some it is probably hard to take seriously. Kinda like Adam getting all melodramatic in songs. Hard for some to understand it is just part of who he is.

OMG -- say "Ma'am" to a Northerner and watch the indignation spew forth -- it is taught as a form or respect here in the South and causes great confusion when one is chastised for using it. Laughable how our cultural differences can be misinterpreted. That's news to me. I was born, raised and spent my life as a northerner and never heard that one. I just asked my co-workers and they laughed. They never heard that either. I think it may be more an age thing than North/South thing? I know lots of women who bristle at being called ma'am by service people, because it makes them feel old. Up around here, I rarely hear any of these terms of endearment used except among very close friends. I think it's an age thing also. I DO remember being somewhat crushed the first time a cashier or someone called me ma'am. But come to think of it...and I CAN'T think of it How do cashiers or whomever address people in the north if it's not with the term "ma'am"? "Hey you?" "buddy?" "Babe"?....I'm going to have to pay more attention.
