People have asked him soooo many times about smoking in the comments of his blogs, but he hasn't answered. Well, I wish they'd stop asking. It's no one's business but his--and possibly Adam's. I've been reading articles on health/nutrition info tonight... I read a sentence that astounded me (from a reputable site)... "One fast-food french fry is worse for your body than one cigarette." (I am not making this up!) I am still a smoker--I've cut back considerably, but haven't kicked it yet. It does NOT help to be lectured. And I'm sure not using that french fry quote to rationalize my bad habit. There's obviously NOTHING good about smoking, nobody with a brain can argue that--but the next time I someone lectures me about it, Imma ask them if they eat french fries. Or cakes and pies. Hydro oils and sugar are poisonous to humans, too--nearly all experts agree on that now. Or maybe I'll ask them how much they drink. Just saying we all have our issues and if you take away the affect on other people (i.e. second hand smoke), not many people can afford to throw stones--even at smokers. Btw, to those who have lost loved ones due to lung cancer, I can totally relate. My mom's lifelong battle with food eventually led to her death...but we all just do the best we can! ETA: Sorry for the OT, but it does relate to Sauli being questioned repeatedly about his habits. I understand exactly how you feel and agree that it is your right to do whatever you want with your body. Unfortunately/fortunately I worked as a researcher in a laboratory for Cancer and HIV prevention. Once you have seen the actual lungs of a smoker you simply can't justify not saying something to people you care about. No matter how much they resent you for saying it because no smoker wants to hear it. Noone. I definitely did not want to hear it. Most people simply don't fully realize what they are doing to their lungs and their entire immune system. If we wore our lungs outside our body, noone would smoke. Many also don't know that their overall immunity is highly effected by smoking. Finally, many don't realize how many things change for the better, eating because tastebuds return, kissing, and best of all, overall health. The body heals itself pretty quickly once cigarette smoking ceases. I have absolutely no moral judgement about it. I get the love of and addiction to cigarettes. Nothing in your body wants to quit. Every piece of you wants to smoke. The simple fact is nothing increases percentage chance of getting cancer more than smoking. Aaand there are new amazing programs that help people quit. It is OK if you hate me from here on out for saying this. I leave this message here with love.

Is there anything better than that smiley face with the superlong arms hugging twice around and patting itself? Honestly is there? It belongs in the MOMA it is such a brilliant little thing and so effective. Still kills me every time. It is so damn adorable. I actually feel warm and fuzzy when I see it.

Social smoking is also really hard to break because once you have a couple beers or a cocktail you CRAVE having a cigarette and nothing feels better than smoking at that point. I smoked socially from age 19 about 26. But I had a super healthy boyfriend who's father was a doctor and I broke the habit. Still to this day give me a couple of drinks and I start thinking cigarette. CRAZY. Interesting that pot is actually not as bad for your lungs and it is cigarettes that are legal. But we all know what would happen if pot was legal. Americans would all start smoking pot, start caring less about being better than the Joneses, and start feeling satisfied without nonstop material aquisition. The economy and the country would most definitely go to hell. But we could all feel as happy as if we were at Burning man ! : Love ya BB

I wonder if someone could ask Sauli about it next time he has a question session on his blog ? : Someone asked earlier if Europeans have a different attitude about smoking and health than people in the US. I can only speak from my own experiences and perspective. In my opinion there are fewer smokers at least in the big cities in California than in Helsinki. I pay attention to that when I go back there. But Finns in general do not smoke THAT much. Teens people in early twenties do, but many quit when they get older / have kids. I don't have any figures, but it seems like the number of casual, social smokers has gone down there since the law changed so that you can't smoke at restaurants anymore. For a significant portion of the year it's pretty tough to go out to smoke. Again, according to my observations, for example the French and Italians smoke. Regarding Sauli, I asked in another thread (last week, maybe?) whether he really smokes so much. I have not followed him that closely for very long, but the only time I have seen him smoking was when they were leaving from the AMA after party. There was at least one girl with them who smoked as well. It was quite obvious Sauli had also had a few drinks, so to me it seemed like a social smoking situation. He doesn't have the voice or the skin of a heavy smoker. People have asked him soooo many times about smoking in the comments of his blogs, but he hasn't answered. Now that Adam & Sauli are on this health kick, I wonder if Sauli will stop smoking? Or maybe he has already? Alot of Europeans smoke so I don't know if they have a different attitude about smoking & health? Any Europeans/Finns out there care to comment? I'm not European or Finnish, but I just want to chime in and say I hope Sauli will quit smoking. It seems as if that's the first thing anyone would consider when adopting a healthy lifestyle, yet I used to know a girl who constantly preached healthy eating and still smoked. That was completely baffling to me. I've always had the feeling--mostly because we've seen a lot of candid shots of Sauli in which he did not have a cigarette--that Sauli might be a light social smoker rather than someone with a nicotine addiction. I hope I'm right, because that should make it easier for him to give them up completely. (My dad was a smoker who died of a heart attack when he was only 41, so I tend to be rather hard-nosed on the issue.) Me too. Like healthy alive Sauli with pretty pink lungs rather than gross tarred black lungs. When the U.S FINALLY cracked down on smoking and got healthy the Tobacco companies all started marketing hard in Europe and the rates of cigarette smoking went up there. So sad.

Don't know what I'm doing on this board - - trying to reply so quickly that I've quoted myself saying nothing! But my eagerness in replying is to let you all know that KALE IS NOT A BLOOD THINNER. Kale is so high in vitamin K that is reduces the effectiveness of blood thinners (like coumadin)! Diets high in broccoli, spinach and KALE lessen the effectiveness of medications that prevent clot-related strokes. OK just to wrap this up fully with a note from the Mayo Clinic: For those taking warfarin (blood thinner) One nutrient that can lessen warfarin's effectiveness is vitamin K. It's important to be consistent in how much vitamin K you get daily. The average daily allowance of vitamin K for adult men is 120 micrograms (mcg). For adult women, it's 90 mcg. While eating small amounts of foods that are rich in vitamin K shouldn't cause a problem, avoid eating or drinking large amounts of: Kale Spinach Brussels sprouts Parsley Collard greens Mustard greens Chard Green tea AAAAND Moving right along! CRAAAAAAAAAZY excited about the songs on Byron's list!!!!!!!

I love Kale and agree it is one of the super foods. However, do not eat too much (orr in some cases any) if you are taking blood thinners. Kale is a blood thinner also and is in the high in vitamin K group that people on blood thinners are supposed to stay away from Ok, proceed ;D So what would happen if you ate Kale instead of taking a blood thinner? Sorry folks, off topic. PM me!
