I LOVE surprises like this. Jon Tiven and Stephen Kalinich are a duo who Brian has worked with before and they have a new album coming out on July 3rd. They have premiered a song first called Rude Awakenings which features Brian! link |

Another question
has Brian's red soecial ever been repaired?? Not including string replacement? I'm thinking possible cracks on frame. How did his dad know the basics?
When his father built this guitar. Did he use a model? Isn't it unusual for a individual to build a guitar? Was his father a master carpenter? Again. Knowing the quality of the red, do you know if he was ever approached in early days to produce guitars for other musicians ?
I'm just in awe of the master ship of the guitar since I believe both were novices

I'm just in awe of the master ship of the guitar since I believe both were novices just curious Yes it has been repaired a few times here and there including being totally restored in 1998 - A GREAT article about the restorationIf you are REALLY interested in it: AMAZING BOOKThis is an official book co-written with Brian all about the guitar, how it was built, etc. And it is full of anecdotes. It should have been a bit of a dry read but it really ends up being spectacular. BUT yes there were some things they based it on but they also went on their own a bit so Brian could have exactly what he wanted. He was not as far as I know approached early on but much later he did open up his own line including some interesting variations (like the double necked guitar he used during the first QAL tour as well as the Red Special bass, etc.) It is a phenomenal accomplishment for the two May men who were indeed novices...just brilliant ones! ^ I think the Amazon ones are because if you pre-ordered his album today (or yesterday) were the days the additional tracks were "purchased" and sent out to pre-orders. A question re Queen i was revisiting yt's. Has there ever been a cancellation of a tour concert w Brian or roger? Do they have a stand in. Just ?? As these two gents are getting up in age. I know they have 6 more concerts. But supposedly if one was unable to go on. I think Rufus might fill in but what about a guitarist? I know cancellation due to Adam. But w Adam. Possibly the show would go on. I just wonder as I see the shows so very taxing on both as the sr years are creeping up. At various times I see Brian shaking his handing' stretching them so to speak and of ourse Roger looks at times as if he 's gone thru the wringer i so want more concerts w queen but more so. Do you mean post Freddie have Brian or Roger ever cancelled a gig due to illness or what not? During Freddie's days they had to cancel a few times for Fred and early on in the band's career when Brian got hepatitis they had to cancel a bunch of gigs. POST Freddie? I can't remember any gig cancelled/rescheduled due to illness, etc from Brian or Roger. There was a terrorist attack in London which forced a Hyde Park gig to be rescheduled. I know that when bassist for QPR Danny Miranda was hospitalized for a few days, the show went on with Neil Murray (who has close connections with Brian). Finally there are rumors that the band had Jeff Scott Soto on standby in case Paul split during the last QPR tour. Mostly though when Paul had vocal problems in the beginning of the 2005 tour, they rejiggered the set just a bit - They dropped Paul's solo bit - Brian and Roger both picked up a few tracks - Brian sang I Want It All, Roger sang the hard rock section of Hammer To Fall, etc. I'll be honest that if any of the 3 had to sit out, they'd probably cancel the gig. I also would think (and this may be an unpopular opinion here but I think the most likely person to be replaced would be Adam - I mean it's mainly a Queen gig, Queen catalogue, etc. It IS Queen + Adam - but since it really is a Queen show with Adam singing...and it's already a bit of stretch calling 1/2 of Queen Queen - if B or R sat out it's really a solo gig with Adam singing. BUT most likely I think they are equal enough that they'd cancel if any of the 3 big guns were ill. |

So on June 1st, Brian and Kerry will be playing a gig in Verona with an orchestra - It's being advertised as Queen hits so we'll have to see. It was kind of hard to understand whether this was a full gig or a shortened gig. They are not the only act on the bill so I assume it's a shortened gig but it could be cool. It didn't say it was an acoustic gig, so I assume it's Brian electric again. Also Rufus was interviewed in a German magazine. The translation was rough but Rufus is definitely continuing with QAL (happy to hear) - and it seemed to say another US tour was possible....  |

Brian and Kerry played in Verona on June 1st as part of an opening of the Opera season in Verona. Along with Italian singer Vittorio Grigolo, they played Who Wants To Live Forever/Brian talked about Freddie/No-One But You/Somebody To Love/We Will Rock You/Bohemian Rhapsody
The playlist above shows most of it - No-One But You is missing and Somebody To Love is the second half of the song.

Brian is set to make a guest appearance on the upcoming Motorhead album, Bad Magic on a song called The Devil. Brian will drop a solo over some usually thunderous heavy metal, I'm sure! Motorhead New Album Release |

Brian and Kerry Ellis did an interview today on a UK radio show and they touched on all sorts of things:
Mainly that there are working on Anthems II for a hopeful release of the end of the year or the beginning of next.
Interesting point though when asked about QAL he said it is ongoing - he only said there were the 6 shows in South America but then said it was still ongoing. BUT the more interesting point is when the interviewer said...So if you write a song is it more likely to end up with Kerry than with Queen (and Adam) and Brian's response was..."Weeeelllllll that's an interesting question....uhh...either or both..." in that Brianesque "I don't want to give too much away" and he quickly veered into that he had written some stuff for Kerry.
So there's that...we'll see.

A Night At The Odeon - Nov 20, 2015Officially announced after it was a not so well kept secret! Some pros and cons. BIG pros: Continuing to unleash long forgotten 70s gigs instead of rehashing more Magic Tour gigs. Another legendary concert. Some cool extras including a new documentary AND a release of Now I'm Here from the soundcheck to the gig. Unheard and very cool...BUT SOME cons: This was always going to be a sort of transition release. You see the setlist is similar to the Rainbow gigs - there is very little unheard gems and while we knew this was coming it was going to pale in comparison to Rainbow while we wait for what most Queen fan really want - a Live Killers Box Set or some good late 70s gigs - awesome set lists, great gigs, etc. Another con is that one thing that *COULD* have really boosted it's appeal was to add to the bonus material - either another full Hammersmith gig from earlier in the year or another '75 gig we know they have like the Budoken. They added a few tracks from Budoken as bonuses but omit what would have been the biggest selling point for hardcore Queen fans, an official recording (even if it's live) of Hangman - a track recorded for the first album but still unheard by most except the creme da la creme of collectors due to it's existence only as an acetate. WITH that one track, people would have LOVED the release instead of some fans ho-humming it a bit. Now there were rumors in the last week that one of the bonuses we would get was the soundcheck...which is a nice bonus....but now that we get here it's one song from the soundcheck. Still cool, but a bit less than we had assumed (key word assumed I know) I know my Con list is bigger but it is more because I had to explain the cons...All in all this is a great release and I will certainly be picking it up. I too am more excited about some of the hopefully to follow releases (Possibilities include - Hyde Park 1976 - Earls Court 1977 - Houston 1977 - Hammersmith 1979, A Live Killers Box Set which would take a lot of material from that tour (that we know was recorded). So we'll see. This could have been a perfect release if only they included the full Tokyo show as a bonus CD or at least more highlights that included Hangman...
