I'm not holding out hope anymore that Adam has the part. Tho I hope he does. But it seems he is the only artist who has to be the biggest star ever to get anything. They have had numerous musicals on tv. Some have been cast with bigger stars than Adam and some have not. Adam will never be the biggest star out there so why should we wish for anything, if that is the only measure? He is a star but he may not get the part. Some fans will think it is because he is not big enough because he never is. Others will think other things could have prevented it. Like, he may not have even gone for it. Or they were looking for something else. Or someone had a better management team. If he does not get it, the only thing we will really know for sure is that he is not Judas. We will not know why, tho, some will pretend that they do know. Good points -- but why would you stop hoping for Adam to get the part? Because a reporter posted an idea about someone else getting it who is a plausible choice? Adam could get this part. It is the combination of fan certainty (not certain until it is announced) and deriding the competition that I was responding to. Luis can sing and Luis does not have the part either. Luis is a plausible choice for the part. I could list 10 recording artists who could play Judas and 1 is Adam. He is not the only person who could do it. One certainty -- whoever gets the part of Judas will not be the biggest recording artist in the world or the biggest recording star -- the biggest recording artist in the world right now is Drake. Adam is not the only artist who has to compete. It is part of the business. In this case, we do know Adam wants the part of Judas. He has said so and reconfirmed that with his social media activities. But we know he also wants other things. *** I try to hope for things for Adam without getting into the "he just has to get this" mode. I learned a lot about these fan speculations by getting wrapped up in the Idol judges picks a couple of times. Since then, I have not gotten on these "roller coasters." If he gets it, great. If not, he has other opportunities. So about getting wrapped up in Adam getting something -- I did that twice with Idol and not doing it again. *** Regarding fans being sure of why he didn't get something -- it's what fans do. They care, analyze and speculate. Just part of the "job." It won't go away. *** I have stayed relatively quiet on the "Adam as Judas" speculation because this is not a "career-making" moment for anyone. There is very little in the "career-making" category anymore. Have to admit that my "hope" excitement is waning a bit, too, esp. since Luis appeared in the mix. He's very hot right now. That's part of the ratings game: casting someone who has millions of active and current fans. But as of now, he doesn't have the part either We keep hoping for and talking about Adam's big "acting break." Sure, he's done some TV, Glee, PLL, etc., but this JCS role is much bigger, much more high-profile. In my head I keep asking, "If it isn't THIS role that is his breakthrough, then which role will it be?" What other roles will come along? Will be get more offers as time goes on? To me, each role that he MIGHT get is a real opportunity that may not come again. We know he could handle the Judas role, vocally and presence-wise. He's done enough theater to handle it. But those who choose the cast have to consider many things. It interesting that someone a few pages back mentioned that Adam is taller than John Legend. That fact occurred to me, too, as soon as Legend was announced. I've seen JCS about four times onstage and Jesus is never shorter that the other principle male characters. It is important for every character to "look" right. Legend also a more slight build than Adam does. Adam is tall, broad-shouldered, long and strong torso. Legend is simply and smaller-built man. Might be a factor is the decision. All that being said, I still hope he gets the part. And one more thing about the discussion about Despacito (sp) as a hit song. It's so true that a hit song has to have that perfect storm of factors, esp. that earworm beat and rhythm that sticks with you. The quality of the vocals doesn't really matter. Mediocre singers get hits all the time. Even Adam has said, "It's not about the voice." I agree that "Shady" shoulda woulda coulda been a radio hit. It has all the right elements. Lay Me Down, too. But that's history. Hope the A4 era is the best ever!

Thanks for this rather educational post. Now I know why I do connect to some songs instantly, especially when working out to them. I totally agree on SHADY!!! It was love at first listen for me, and I still can't get over the fact that it was never a single and only remained a fan favorite. I’ve read articles about how long a listener gives a song to catch their interest before they skip it. A few years back it was around 14 seconds, I expect it is even shorter now. Shady was one of the few songs Adam has put out that had that immediate hooking potential. Evil In the Night is another. Also I think TOH had it. There is a lot of research in this area -- here's one. "If you look back historically, technological changes have likely shaped the way people compose and listen to music for a long time . . . the compact disc brought along an ease of skipping that was leaps and bounds ahead of vinyl or cassette tapes. We're operating in an 'attention economy,' and attention is scarce and valuable."

In 2014, one quarter of songs were skipped after 4 seconds. www.theguardian.com/music/2014/may/07/one-quarter-of-spotify-tracks-are-skipped-in-first-five-seconds-study-reveals
Here's a chart of Spotify song skipping.
Back in 2014, nearly 50 percent of music listeners skipped a song before it ended.
Wonder if we will eventually have 90-seccond singlettes?

Would it even be possible to get rid of such a contract from one day to another? Surely not without fees. I read somewhere, that artists change managements from time to time, when they can get a better deal. And Adam has upped his profile enough through the years he stayed with his last management company.

It's the most watch music video in YouTube history. It has an awesome number of views. Most of those views are after the release of the remix version in April 2017 so hard to separate the effect of Bieber on the song's popularity. It was not a global hit before the remix. And it's now a big hit is China with the Mandarin version. quartzy.qz.com/1196359/luis-fonsis-global-hit-despacito-now-has-a-mandarin-version-featuring-jj-lin/With that, Latin music faces barriers in the U.S. It did win the Grammy for Song of the Year -- and without the Bieber remix, it would not have gotten airplay on Mainstream US Radio. They (Louis Fonsi) lost in all 3 of their categories at the US Grammy. I think they were shut out. Or are you referring to something else? Bruno won Song of the year for "That's What I Like" Bruno won Record of the year for "24K Magic" Portugal the Man won Duo/Group for "Feel It Still"

I responded to this tweet by keeping Adam's name out of it. Question is... what do they really want to achieve? Best possible viewership or a truly noteworthy production that will be talked about.

This tweet makes them look incompetent. I do NOT believe they have not hired the major roles. But for some reason, I have no idea what, the next announcements have been held up.

He wouldn't get asked about the Judas role by fans if they had announced it already. The event is within two months already. It should have been officially announced already. They are missing good promo because of this delay. I'm only seeing John in the Super Bowl promo clip. I wonder why Sarah isn't in it or maybe Alice.
