After watching those videos...I am...surprisingly cautiously optimistic about a few things. I'm sure that will change as I try to factor in Brian's usual "enthusiasm" as someone said earlier...patti I think. I like that way to describe it BUT He did say something about new/different tracks to go with the new set. That WOULD be awesome. I don't need a ton...but if we got say 5 "new" tracks - that would be awesome....I mean don't get me wrong I'd love to see pull a Springsteen and do a completely different set every night but I understand that the Queen shows need cues and tech that makes that impossible...but a new feel would be nice. The other thing...is that I had resigned myself to no QAL studio album...but for whatever reason the interview tonight makes me think that the flame on that candle is not *QUITE* out. Obviously there are no plans...but it almost seems as if Brian is being beaten into submission. Enough people ask about it and after touring for 4 straight years (with the few dates in 2012 as well), I would think they may want to try to do something. They all seem more open to it...it was Adam's quote though that made me think something definitely was up - he seemed to say that he felt sure that something was going to happen at some point so we'll see. I also wonder what the "Secret Mission" is on Brian's instagram...it came after the press/interview thing...I wonder if it's Freddie movie related....

A few thoughts: - The really good news is this means that Brian is feeling better. Of course I don't know...but it was clear to me it was some type of depression or mental stress that just got to him at the end of last year....
- Yay! I admit now that I had a doubt whether I'd ever see Brian and Roger hit the US again after 2014...Now this time I'd be 95 % certain that this would be their last North American tour so I'm definitely catching them. Still circling around dates but I'm thinking I'm doing Boston and Philadelphia this time around. Would love to do Barclays as well but way too cost prohibitive and time prohibitive as well unfortunately...
- I did sneak around here yesterday and saw Adam's quote about A4 and that is good good news to me AND much more likely we get a B or R cameo if not full track. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they figure that's a good way to dip their toes in the water for recording together. Have B and/or R write a track with Adam for A4 and have them guest on his album. That way it doesn't have to compare in a way to a "QUEEN" track as Brian seems hesitant to record as Queen again...
- I still wonder what Brian meant by touring in a "new way". It is possible that lost in translation it just meant a new set up and staging...I would LOVE for a new set list but I don't see much in the way of changes ever again unfortunately. Brian specifically is a bit....lazy in his old age. Not meant to be a real criticism...I just think he doesn't want to really work at brushing off an old track when he get as many cheers doing the same hits they've been doing....Not to be pedantic (especially on this site saying this...) but it is the curse of how many hits they have...they feel they have to do all the hits.
They do ~27-30 songs per gig. We'll be pessimistic and say 28 (not including God Save The Queen).
In the US they MUST play (maybe in their contract ): - We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and I'd say Under Pressure given the Bowie revival still going pretty strong.
That leaves us: 22
The tracks that they never seem to leave home without playing even if they are not necessarily "Must Plays": - Tie Your Mother Down, Love Of My Life, Guitar Solo, Last Horizon, Radio Ga Ga, EITHER Days of Our Lives or A Kind Of Magic, Drum Battle/Solo,
Now down to 15
The tracks that are Adam musts and a few tracks that have not left since Adam's been around for full tours:
- Somebody To Love, Who Wants To Live Forever, Killer Queen, Stone Cold Crazy, In The Lap Of the Gods, Seven Seas Of Rhye, I Want It All, Fat Bottomed Girls
Down to 7 Tracks
Now it's the tracks that are kind of cycled through as differences: - The Show Must Go On, Dragon Attack (esp in America), I Want To Break Free, Don't Stop Me Now
Then it leaves the 3-4 tracks that are usually new or left from previous bits:
- Hammer To Fall, Keep Yourself Alive, Love Kills, Play The Game, Save Me
SO I'd be for more of the same.
The real interest will be what they open with....
Opening songs from the past:
- Procession/Father To Son (Not gonna happen)
Procession/Now I'm Here (already done)
- Bohemian Rhapsody (Fast Part)/Ogre Battle (Interesting idea - but in a full show you're getting a full BoRap and I doubt we get OB)
- A Day At The Races Intro/Tie Your Mother Down (not the Day at the Races but TYMD is OFTEN an opener or at least song 2 so I wouldn't be shocked as it's a nice standby. Also done in 2005-2006 with P/R but not yet with Adam so...maybe
- We Will Rock You (Slow/Fast) - I doubt it. They might do WWRY just fast again though but if it's a new show then I hope not
- Intro/Jailhouse Rock - Don't see it as an opener really
- Flash/The Hero (Already done twice)
- Flash/Rock It (Prime Jive) - Don't believe it worked too well as an opener
- Machines Intro/Tear It Up - They could go this route but Tear It Up was never big in the US so I'm doubtful
- One Vision - Done in 1986 and in 2008 with Paul Rodgers a few times AND with Adam so i really hope not - would like to see it mid show to see a new arrangement
- Surf's Up, School's Out - Absolutely not - not doing QPR tracks and it didn't last long anyways even for QPR
- Hammer To Fall - Didn't work well as an opener
I'm hoping for a new opener...but I'm always satisfied with Tie Your Mother Down.
If they don't go with a not played with adam track...then I'd like to maybe give I Want It All a shot....I always thought Breakthru could work but I doubt that would play....Innuendo also would be a ballsy choice even if they only did a small bit of it. Of course I'll throw out the same tracks I usually throw out as wishlists:
White Queen Spread Your Wings It's Late Prophets Song Liar It's A Hard Life Princes of the Universe Breakthru Was It All Worth It Let Me Live
Tenement Funster, Drowse, Modern Times Rock and Roll, I'm In Love With My Car or even Ride The Wild Wind or Heaven For Eveyrone (for Rog instead of Days or Magic) -- Love with My Car has a shot
Brian singalong like 2012 - one of my favorite things he did...he could rotate '39, Long Away, You're My Best Friend, or whatever else he wants to
Either way it'll still be good to see/hear them live one more time

I know some people involved with this and no buzz whatsoever about Adam being involved. Still seems possible he might be involved but my money would be on the Los Angeles show based on what I have found out. Adam has two connections to David Bowie -- Nile Rodgers and Queen (Brian and Roger). So possible -- but almost everyone in the music business from 1970 to 1990 has a connection to David Bowie. While Nile is certainly on the high end of involvement with David Bowie, he doesn't seem to be a major player in this tribute tour. **** Regarding Adam in New York -- perhaps he is working with someone on his album? Nile got back in NYC on 12/10 -- so it could be Nile. But somehow I feel like Adam might have moved beyond his "funky" stage -- mostly an A2 concept. Hopefully he give us a clue. Just to throw it out there - Gail Ann Dorsey, Bowie's bassist is a HUGE Queen fan. In fact she sang Freddie's part when Bowie performed Under Pressure on tour. And furthermore she was initially touted to be the bassist in the QPR tour in 2005 but from reports Paul rejected her for unknown reasons. SO with that in mind, if Nile isn't Adam's hook up into a tribute show appearance, perhaps through Gail, B&R will go and Adam would join them....just another thought

It would be very, very unusual for a biopic of a singer of Freddie's vintage not to use a new vocalist to rerecord missing or poor quality vocals. For most major motion picture biopics they either have it entirely resung or use some new and some original vocals. For example, a recording studio scene will often require new vocals, or early performances. In Queen's case, there are very few quality live performance recordings for 1968-1970 (proto-Queen Freddie) and 1971-1978. I don't think it will be Adam but it would be cool -- and fun to watch the Freddie worshipers meltdown. I think there may be more higher quality stuff than you would think. Queen recorded everything so especially in the later portion...i'd say 74-78. Maybe a bit less in 68-71. High enough for a film? That I'm not sure of..

About Adam providing the singing voice for Freddie..... I don't know how the die-hard Queen fans would react. They would probably hate it. I don't know how the rest of the audience would react. They would probably think he sounds amazing, but not like Freddie. Yes, Adam can vocally handle the Queen repertoire, and then some. We know he can also handle the theatricality and frontman duties in concert, which makes him a perfect match for Queen in live performances. But, to me, Adam's voice is very different from Freddie's. Adam is a singers' singer. He is polished, technically amazing, and his voice has a richness and fullness found in musical theater and classical music, but not often in rock. Freddie's voice is more piercing, raw, risky, and unpredictable. I can hear Freddie work and push for the notes and phrases, whereas Adam sounds effortless. Adam's voice just wouldn't fit Freddie's story or his musical journey. IMHO, YMMV FOr the record - I think even the pro QAL Queen fans would hate that. I would hate that myself tbh. Pure out and out hate which is something I don't do very often lol.... He sounds nothing like Freddie so it wouldn't make sense. Mimicking ability or not... I wouldn't be surprised if he plays himself during an epilogue of sorts showing what happened to the band post Freddie...or possibly it is about getting together with Queen to write a closing credits type of song....Or it could be a cameo of sorts. I'm pushing my sources to find out more but they are more on the music side of things so I'm not sure what they can find out... Personally I don't have a problem with Adam being in it per se - my only concern would be that it would be more of a distraction - a Hey look it's Adam that takes me out of the actual story...but I wouldn't melt down like some Queen purists obviously would...

Talon I know reflecting on things sometimes can be very melancholy. Hopefully Brian will be able to recharge himself and QAL can continue. And hopefully Brian and Roger will do other individual projects in the future. HUGS. Thanks I believe he will. I have to wonder if the "safe place" he went is a facility. I hope he does so if that's what needs. Talon...thank you SOOOOO much for those . I really love ...and would be hard pressed to name a favorite between BACK TO THE LIGHT and WILDERNESS....slight preference for Wilderness i think tho that could just be a recency effect. Resurrection has way too much testerone ooozing out of it for mr...came really close to halting the vid before done, tbh. Shudder.... Ymmv Understandable. Brian was always the heaviest rocker of Queen and this was him at his most defiant. But glad you liked the other two TalonI was moved by your post and by what Queen has meant to you over a lifetime. It made me think of how I would feel if we were never to see QAL again and I realise that, for me, it would be a forever loss. Nothing lasts forever - We just have to make sure we seize as much of the day as we can. Let's hope that Brian will recover soon - I'm sure he will. He is privileged to be able to create the best circumstances to facilitate that.... He certainly is and I hope he takes full advantage of it. I hear you, Talon, I was really saddened and concerned to hear Brian was so unwell, and he's flown off somewhere secret....I really hope this is all temporary and he comes bounding back to us. We need people like Brian in this world, for all the good work he does, music and otherwise, and his positive presence. . Thankyou for your video selection of Brian's music, listening now..Take care, Talon. Thanks fd. Glad to pass along such positivity. Hope Brian remembers these sentiments as well... I know what you mean, talon. I found out maybe an hour ago and felt pretty gutted myself. Then I did something VERY unusual for me -- I sent Bri a tweet, telling him I was sending him love and prayers. And a few minutes after I did that, I discovered that he had signed off social media this morning. That's when I lost it. I can't bear losing him just from Twitter, and thinking about losing him or anyone else, well, it just hurts, hurts, HURTS. (I'm probably extra susceptible and weepy because my sister is quite ill in the hospital right now, but it's certainly a fact of life that hard times are part of the good and we have to accept it all.) I like what you said about time passing in a heart beat or a song. It's always been music that has blessed my life so I definitely appreciate the three beauties that you included in you post. OK, now for a listen and then a deep breath to continue this journey. Sorry you are in a tough place as well. All positivity I can muster I will send your way as well! I just went to iTunes to see if the first two were available for purchase and they do not come up at all! Were they not released? Are then not possible to get legally? Why? Talon do you know? Anyone? That's because as of right now this moment both of Brian's solo albums are out of print. They never made it to iTunes. For awhile they have been working on a big box set of Brian's solo material which will hopefully rectify that but I don't know when that would be released. It would hopefully be as (mostly) complete as Roger's recent set "The Lot" which despite some errors and not a heckuva lot of rarities did at least reprint all of his solo albums and singles. It's a shame because there are some wonderful songs on both albums!

Just popping in to say I'm a bit gutted over Brian. Even though I couldn't go to any of the December gigs, I always was fond of them. It was a nice treat for me as I got to see Brian doing not so typical Queen GH tracks..a lot of covers yes, but some occasional randomness and even more Brian singing...like Brian doing a very subdued acoustic Somebody To Love (with Kerry).
It really kind of has me down as I start to be reminded that more and more as time goes on I have less time to spend with my favorite band. Queen is already gone when Freddie died. John retired. B and R have done a lot in terms of solo albums, Queen + stuff and more and that kind of made it easier to accept.
But it's all slowing down. Brian had 2 solo albums in the 90s. Then he had some work with Kerry but he hasn't been writing much. Roger also had 2 solo albums in the 90s and a few tours. He finally had a new solo album a few years back and I hope he'll do another one but it seems doubtful and he too is slowing.
My whole life has been soundtracked by Freddie, Brian, Roger, and John and it's tough to watch it kind of get to the point it's sinking in that eventually it's going to be finished...and that day is now sooner than later.
After todays tweets it does seem as more of a depression thing like initially thought so I hope this time off does him good and that by next year he's ready to share his amazing talent with us through Kerry and again through QAL.
I guess i'm just saying don't blink. Time will pass by in a heartbeat...or a song...
Three solo Brian tracks to hopefully show him and me the way home...

To bring over what I was talking about at the end of yesterday's thread and to slip into your Rocky Horror discussion So if I can do it in 5 minutes - they should be able to do a bit with it as well Talon... your took-me-five-minutes setlist sounds GREAT!! </img> Now that we have a little time maybe I'll try to build a real set list and present it
