To bring over what I was talking about at the end of yesterday's thread and to slip into your Rocky Horror discussion Just for shits and giggles I took 5 minutes and came up with a setlist that would generally please the more casual Queen fan (and Adam fans) --- basically the GH crowd more or less and yet still throw us hardcore fans (who have been supporting them forever and buying every bit just to hear a slightly different edit) a bone.... InnuendoSeven Seas Of Rhye Stone Cold Crazy HeadlongDon't Stop Me Now Big Spender - Killer Queen Somebody To Love Brian acoustic song of the day (any quick jam - Long Away/You're My Best Friend/'39/Some Day One Day) Love Of My Life Roger rolling song (AKOM/Days but also add a few to the rotation - Tenement Funster/I'm In Love With My Car/Drowse/Heaven For Everyone) Drum Battle Under Pressure BreakthruROTATE (Crazy Little Thing/Another One Bites The Dust/ The Invisible Man)I Want It All Who Wants To Live Forever The Show Must Go On Last Horizon - Guitar Solo Tie Your Mother Down Bohemian Rhapsody Radio Ga Ga ENCORE: No-One But You (Brian sings the first verse/Roger sings the second verse/Adam sings the 3rd Verse)
We Will Rock You We Are The Champions So if I can do it in 5 minutes - they should be able to do a bit with it as well

No prob I'm still around in and out - especially since Bri said more QAL tours. I'm hoping it's shaken up a bit - Perhaps since it's the 40th anniversary of News of the World - they could do the complete album....but no I think it'll still end up being a GH tour....Brian isn't in a great place to try something too dangerous.... But maybe also because the concert goer are not 100% die hard Queen fans, so they may have not familiar with the other Queen song's other than GH songs. That's certainly part of it. But there are certainly compromises they could make. I mean for 5 or so years it's generally been the same setlist just rearranged. A few songs come and go but it would be a nice nod to the hardcore fans to try a few rarely played pieces. For example at Hammersmith in 2012 i loved when bri was doing a different acoustic song each gig before love of my life. And rog could pull any of his songs besides AKOM or Days of our Lives...just a handful of tracks would change it up enough to be very interesting. Don't get me wrong I'm there regardless and am happy they are touring at all and am not trying to sound bitter cause I'm really not..I just would love hearing a bit more variety! Even songs that are still greatest hits that haven't been really played: Bicycle Race Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy You're My Best Friend Innuendo It's A hard life Headlong Breakthru No-one but you The miracle The invisible man Heaven for everyone Too much love will kill you Etc. If the rumor is true and they are doing new US gigs than now is perfect for a setlist shakeup...

To follow up on others it definitely seems that Brian is in the midst of depression. He has fought it before... Most notably around the time of Freddie's death and then again around 1999-2000 timeframe. It does seem as if QAL is a real positive thing for him right now (and hopefully his work and tour with Kerry Ellis in December will be positive for him too. If you are also asking about the hashtag, Back To The Light was his first proper solo album and was quite cathartic for him during a big depressing time. The same album has the studio version of Last Horizon which you all know pretty well by now... Thanks for the info talon. Was hoping you'd check in and clarify! People on one of the QAL forums are saying Brian is very depressed right now and to tweet him a message to cheer him up using the hashtag #backtothelight. Anyone know anything about this? Did I miss something? To follow up on others it definitely seems that Brian is in the midst of depression. He has fought it before... SO - Nothing announced at this point for QAL. Are there further plans?
Probably.
All we know at this time regarding the possible future of QAL:
1. Live release - Summersonic may get a release...maybe Japan only but there is is a small buzz that it may be happening from overseas.
2. Recording - Reportedly they have recorded together (although that may be a miscommunication from Brian's vague answer which could have meant a ton of different things but definitely no QAL studio album planned or even likely.
3. Future live performances - For the first time there is no specific buzz about anything planned - only one statement by Brian that said they were looking at a different way of touring next year. or something like that. No idea what that means...BUT it does seem they are looking at something after Adam records his next album, and after Brian/Kerry finish their album and tour in December, etc. and they probably have to wait for Adam to promote also. (I'm also kind of hoping that Rog does a small solo tour)

Given the whole Unicef Imagine stuff, I think it'd be awesome if Queen resurrected Imagine for QAL. They did it with Freddie a few times after John was killed and then once again with QPR on one occasion in Hyde Park. That was a nice version with Brian, Roger, and Paul doing verses so it would be nice to slide Adam into Paul's parts...

Just some random thoughts. I think Dr. May has trouble dealing with the human rights issues, animal rights, the air pollution in China that is ever persistent (much less in Shanghai than in Beijing and Hong Kong. The pollution is destroying a country and its people. It is still a communist country and the concept of the architecture in Shanghai compared to the rest of China is so out of place and exceedingly progressive and modern. My husband says the buildings have light shows every evening in Shanghai. I think he overthinks, and as a result has trouble dealing with the dichotomy in China. He is on such a high on this trip and is visiting places that have been years since he saw it last or seeing it the first time. maybe he probably has touble dealing with the changes, and the lack of time to take it all in. I think he wishes he had longer in these places to fully take in what China has become. It is 180 degrees the opposite of the UK. I would be a zombie considering the time differences, and am surprised he is doing as well as he is, and he is still recovering from the food poisoning. That will take its toll on someone his age. I can say this as I am his age. I hope he is not in a dark period, but rather having trouble taking it all in. Maybe he is thinking that the tour ends soon and Adam will be on his way and the fun will be hiatus until Adam is free again. Maybe he thinks about his mortality. He may be sad the tour is ending...but honestly I don't think so. He's got a busy fall/winter finishing up the new album with Kerry Ellis whom always makes him happy - and a December tour with Ms. Ellis as well. And given his comments about doing live performances a different way next year means to me they aren't quite done yet....

Yes at times he does. It got really bad in the later 80s - his marriage crumbled, his dad died, Freddie was dying. He got so low that he almost killed himself at one point but then checked into a facility and got some support and came out the other end in a much better place but he has stated that sometimes depression does strike him from time to time still... Read this article for more: AN ARTICLE ON THE SUBJECTAnd another....Brian's post makes me sad -- I really hope he doesn't slip back into that pit. I was thinking how happy he and Roger must be to finally perform in China -- clearly I was way off base about how Brian "must" feel. He's been pretty good about taking care of himself. I don't think he'll let it slip that far back. Like all depression - sometimes it just raises it's ugly head. I'm sure in someways he is very happy about being in China. He just has to remind himself to not sink sometimes....
